A Galaxy Far Away

"Sure." She chuckled, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek before hopping up from the couch. When she came back, she handed him the raspberry lemonade and slipped onto the couch next to him. Snuggling close to his side, she grinned and leaned her head against his shoulder.

"Yeah, they do." She chuckled, sneaking her arm around his as she watched the screen. "They bicker and tease and snipe at each other, but they actually are good friends." She’d always loved that about the duo’s relationship. They could jab at each other, fight and squabble, but in the end they’d take risks for each other. That was friendship.

After downing a few gulps of the lemonade, the blue man felt much better. “Thanks,” he smiled, pulling Alice close against his side. “I needed that.”

He continued to sip, intrigued, as the story brought them to the Skywalker family’s moisture farm. That concept, too, Six found intriguing. It probably wouldn’t be difficult to create something similar in the real world, and he told Alice as much. “Though it would probably make more sense to have the farms in moisture-rich areas, and transport the water to desert communities. Deserts would be a better place for solar or wind farming.”

"Probably." She agreed, grinning to herself as she listened to her husband work over logistics for a real life moisture farm.  It wasn’t something she’d ever really thought about, but she knew he enjoyed that kind of thing, and listening to him think about it out loud just made her grin even more.

For some reason, watching C3PO get dipped in the oil bath reminded her of the lava pits in Hawaii. She purred a little at the memory and snuggled a little closer, rubbing her cheek against his shoulder. “Do you think the idea of droids like that is really possible? I mean, that kind of A.I..” She pondered out loud.

Smiling, he rested his own cheek on top of her head, nuzzling her soft curls. “It’s definitely possible. There are already robots and computer programs out there that have an early form of it. They can answer questions, and learn and remember things. It isn’t much of a step from there to developing personalities.”

The blue man’s smile faded. “I think the reason the research isn’t going faster is that people don’t trust it. Think of how many stories there are about machines going rogue and turning on their masters. That says a lot about how humans feel about A.I.”

He didn’t mention that some of their fear might be justified. In his old dimension, a lifetime ago, he himself had built an army of artificially intelligent robots, programmed to destroy Metro City. He’d never launched them, thanks to that other Roxanne Ritchi, but it had been a near thing.

"Hmm..yeah, that’s true." She murmured thoughtfully, content feeling his cheek against her hair. From all the sci-fi movies out there, with robots going out of control, A.I. progressing to the point of robotic superiority…yeah, she could see why they’d be wary to move forward with it.

A soft semi-dry chuckle came from her and she hugged his arm a little more. “Maybe it’s a good thing they’ve held off then….there’s enough bad and dangerous out there without robots running a muck.” It was mostly joking…kind of.

A Bump In The Night

"It’s okay. I’ve seen….well, nothing quite like that, but..bad enough." Granted she hadn’t ever seen a monster like that, much less one that threatened her and her family.

At least it was gone now.

His mention of ‘good Aswangs’ drew her attention and one of her eyebrows arched slightly. After seeing the one she’d just barbecued, she couldn’t imagine it…but she supposed he’d know more about it than she did.  ”That’s…good.”

Keeping up with him and focusing on the here and now - making sure not to stumble over debris or loose boards - she pulled at her ripped coat, trying to check out her side. It didn’t feel like she’d been bitten or anything, but she knew from experience that in a high stress situation, you didn’t always feel the injuries first off. “I don’t think so…” She exhaled a deep breath, steadying her nerves - trying to. “I can’t really tell, but I think it just got my coat.”

"Good." Hellboy said with some relief in his voice. "The last thing you’d want is one of those things bitin’ ya." He gave her a half glance. "It ain’t pretty."

Hellboy never noticed how quickly he got sick of that building until he found himself feeling glad to be outside. Then he realized that he didn’t know where Alice lived. “Hey, uh, I meant to ask, you got a safe place to be? I can walk you there considering what just happened.” Noticing her ripped coat reminded him that he said he would fix it.

"I believe you." She grimaced at the idea of being bitten by one of those things, as she followed him out to the sidewalk. It was hard to imagine it’d be any better than it’s threat of wanting to eat her.

It felt surprisingly safe, walking in the dim shadow of his tall thick form. She still didn’t really know him, but Hellboy had proven already that he knew how to take care of himself, that he was fighting for the right side. When he spoke to her, she glanced up, blinking for a half second at his yellow eyes, before he brain caught up. “Oh, yeah. I live a few blocks away.” A smile touched one side of her mouth, curls falling over her face as she gestured, pointing down to the left. “That way, towards the lake.”

"Mmm, yeah, I remember." She grinned, snuggling up to his side.

As they watched the droids make there way over the sand dunes, she couldn’t help thinking that it looked like a nice place to roll around. The hot sand would feel good on her skin, plus a wonderful exfoliant. That idea made her grin a little, but she nodded. “Does look like thirsty work.” She chuckled.

"You want a drink?" She smiled, turning her head towards him, her nose brushing his jaw.

Her nose tickled him a little, and he chuckled. “If you don’t mind, actually, some lemonade would be great.” They’d picked up a few unusually-flavored ones at a local market that weekend, and Six was curious to try one.

The droids didn’t stay in the desert long. Soon, they were picked up by the hooded, chattery Jawas, and Six remained as puzzled as he’d been the first time he saw the scavenging aliens. Why were their hoods so dark, with only the glow of their eyes visible? Some of the human characters wore hoods, but their faces could still be seen. It was more than a little disturbing.

He did smile when the droid comrades were reunited, though. “Seems they really do care about each other.”

"Sure." She chuckled, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek before hopping up from the couch. When she came back, she handed him the raspberry lemonade and slipped onto the couch next to him. Snuggling close to his side, she grinned and leaned her head against his shoulder.
